covid… a dis-ease of the mind

NOT SCIENCE… PHILOSOPHY

Coronavirus - the mere mention of the word is enough to watch spines stiffen and faces scrunch. The sheer volume of stress around the polarity of this word is enough to make most people want to avoid the topic completely.

When we discuss things like COVID, it is SO important to look to nature and to our bodies’ natural capacities to understand a different, gentler, and more aligned way of looking at things that are so heavily charged.

At a physiological level, our bodies have the ability to transmute most pollutants, non-biological material, and wastes through various elimination pathways. Over the long term, our foods, sedentary lifestyles, air quality fluctuations, and other factors (such as non-organically processed foods, alcohol and sugar consumption, as well as tobacco or other addictive substances) all hinder the body’s ability to process beyond basic, every day function. When our body is freer of these substances, and sugar and alcohol is removed from our diet, then our body gains an exponential capacity to process undesired pollutants (like viruses, bacteria, and free radicals) quickly and efficiently.

At an energetic level, our nervous system and our energy body are pretty uniquely tied. While our nervous system is a tangible structure within our bodies carrying the ability to send complex messages about what is happening on the surface (and inside) of our body, our energy body receives just as complex signals about what is happening around us. This shows up as hunches about crossing the street, making that phone call, cancel that appointment, take a nap… etc. When we make decision based on those intuitive hunches, it usually pans out in our favor.

When we are living in a fairly low-stress state, our energy body is actually working to keep us safe, out of harms way, in a peaceful state, and in harmony with our body. We can live in trust of the body to take care of itself, and we can relax into the experience of being… even in the simplest of tasks like walking down the street can be a joyful, blissful experience

When our body is in overwhelm, it taxes our nervous system, putting us into fight-or-flight survival mode. In this mode, only basic, biological functions are being attended to by our energy body. This actually can occur at something as simple as seeing a maskless person walking by you. If you have strong feelings about what other people should be doing, when you witness someone not abiding, it actually pushes you into some degree of panic. Ironically, when you are in this state, the likelihood of becoming ill, or contracting dis-ease is MUCH higher. Yogis (with a sick sense of humor) would say that this is how you will manifest your reality.

HOW TO PREVENT THIS STATE

  • Establish practices that rely on no-one to help you feel safe

  • Establish practices that others should abide by in your home that help you feel safe

  • Mitigate risk in public to the best of your ability by

    • social distancing

    • hand sanitizing

    • tightly sealed filtered mask

    • personal filtered pod

  • Limit interaction with people who don’t help you feel safe

  • Have a plan that makes you feel safe when you can’t socially distance (extra mask, gloves/scarf/face shield etc)

That’s right, it is all about feeling safe. When your body feels safe, then your stress levels reduce, and you can feel into your energy body again. Some people can feel safe without a mask, some people will only feel safe in a hermetically sealed bubble… every body is different, every body has a different relationship with their environment. You have a right to feel safe, and you have a duty to create practices that keep you safe. Unfortunately we can’t rely on anyone around us to do that for us, but the good news is that we are equipped with everything we need to keep take care of ourselves.

We do HAVE to develop a relationship with COVID, the faces (and masks) we wear, and what we need from others to feel safe. Lets also remember that we must involve our humanity and infuse it into how we move through the world, our human decency should not be mandated or changed by a piece of cloth, just give them a couple more feet and a little more leeway.
